How a bitcoin mixer works

Three steps, from a traceable deposit to coins with no on-chain link to you.

1

Send to a one-time address

Pick your output addresses and delay, save the letter of guarantee, then deposit to the address the mixer gives you.

2

The mixer swaps your coins

Your deposit joins a pool. You are paid from different coins, so the chain shows no path between the two.

3

Receive at new addresses

Clean coins arrive split across your addresses at random times, minus the service fee.

Check the URL before every deposit. Phishing copies of popular mixers are the most common way people lose coins. Use the links in our reviews and bookmark them.

Live bitcoin mempool

Check fees before you deposit. A low fee can leave your mix waiting for hours.

Questions people ask

What is a bitcoin mixer?

A bitcoin mixer (or tumbler) takes your coins in and pays you back from a different pool of coins, to addresses you choose, after a delay you set. On the blockchain there is no direct link between the coins you sent and the coins you receive. Some mixers use a custodial pool, others use CoinJoin, where many users combine their inputs in one transaction.

Is using a bitcoin mixer legal?

It depends on where you live. In many countries using a mixer for privacy is not illegal by itself, but several operators have been prosecuted in the US and EU, and some services have been sanctioned. Read our legal guide and check the law in your country before you mix.

How much does mixing cost?

Most custodial mixers charge between 0.5% and 5%, often plus a small fixed fee per output address. CoinJoin coordinators are usually cheaper. You also pay the normal bitcoin network fee, which you can check in the live mempool panel above.

How long does a mix take?

Usually from 30 minutes to a few hours. The mixer waits for at least one confirmation of your deposit, then sends outputs according to the delay you pick. Longer, randomized delays make timing analysis harder.

What is a letter of guarantee?

A letter of guarantee is a message signed with the mixer's public key that records your deposit address, amount and outputs. If anything goes wrong, it proves the order was issued by the real service. Always save it before sending funds.

How do I avoid phishing copies of a mixer?

Phishing clones are the most common way people lose money. Only open mixers from links you have verified, bookmark the official clearnet and onion addresses, and never use links from search ads. Every review on this site lists the official URLs we checked.

Why use a bitcoin mixer?

Every bitcoin transaction is public. Chain analysis firms such as Chainalysis and Elliptic follow coins between addresses and link them to exchange accounts and real identities. A bitcoin mixer, also called a tumbler, breaks that link by paying you from a different pool of coins than the ones you sent.

People mix for ordinary reasons: keeping a salary or savings balance private, protecting business payments from competitors, or not exposing their full history to every person they pay.

How we keep this list current

We check every listed service each month: status, fees, limits, official addresses and any reports of lost funds. Services that are seized, sanctioned or stop paying out move to the service graveyard with a record of what happened.

We don't operate any mixer and we can't recover lost funds. Read each review and test with a small amount first.
